2 Very hot weekends in August 2026

I returned to Burton Constable in 2024 after fishing here for many years as a child, so I was genuinely interested to see how the place had changed.
Unfortunately, the lake was in a very poor condition. The water had been heavily taken over by lily pads and, from a fishing point of view, it was difficult to find areas that I would consider properly fishable. Where you did fish, you had to accept that snags were going to be a problem, and unfortunately they were.
It was a real shame because I remember Burton Constable very differently from when I fished here years ago. My understanding from what I saw was that the lakes were no longer being treated as a dedicated fishing venue in the way they once were. I have even seen them referred to as ornamental lakes, although I cannot say that is the official position of the estate.
Because of the condition of the lake, my review is fairly limited. There simply wasn’t enough available to give a proper assessment of what Burton Constable could offer as a modern fishing venue.
On arrival, you pay at reception. You are then allowed through the barrier and given a code to use when you leave.
There are parking areas on site, but you do have a short shuffle to the lake with your gear. There are no purpose built fishing pegs, so you’re essentially setting up bankside on the grass.
One positive is that there is plenty of flexibility over where you can set up, and there are certainly opportunities for double pegs because you can position yourself along the bankside.
Facilities are fairly limited from a fishing perspective. There is no café or bait shop for anglers, despite there apparently having been one many years ago. There are toilets on site for holiday park visitors, although depending on where you choose to fish, they can be quite a walk away.
Ultimately, I came away disappointed. This isn’t the Burton Constable I remember fishing as a child, and based on my 2024 visit, I personally wouldn’t make the journey here for a fishing session.
There are plenty of actual fisheries nearby where your time would be better spent.
In hindsight, don’t go. Go to an actual fishery.
